In
the song "Pieces of April," Three Dog Night sings the
chorus:
"I've got pieces of April, I keep them in a memory
bouquet
I've got pieces of April, but it's a morning in May"
With that song they painted an enduring word image, an image
unique for each of us. They have
pieces of April, but those are only memories because already
it is May.
And thus are memories made, and recalled.
A
photograph is an image of a slice of time. Anyone
looking at it will see the same reflections
of
light and color.
But the photograph becomes art when it calls forth in each
of our minds unique memories: of
similar times, similar feelings, places in time with or
without someone else. The photograph is art
when it paints a watercolor wash of a life moment in the
mind of the beholder.
